Southern Sunshine Coast Roads Improvement Study
The project undertook an assessment to identify deficiencies and upgrade needs in the Southern Sunshine Coast area to provide options for future road upgrades that aim to improve safety, network resilience and efficiency. The project also delivered business cases for two priority projects: Kawana Motorway – Mooloolah River Interchange to Kawana Way Link Road and Caloundra Road/Kawana Way Link Road/Bells Creek Arterial Road Intersection.
Commercial Road - Doggett Street Intersection Upgrade, Newstead
This project upgraded the Commercial Road and Doggett Street intersection in Newstead. Works undertaken included the signalising of the intersection, crossings, installation of bike boxes and adjustments to in-street car-parking arrangments at the intersection.
Shute Harbour Road Upgrades
The project will be delivered in two stages. Stage 1 will widen approximately 700 metres of Shute Harbour Road to provide a four-lane divided carriageway, including undertaking associated intersection upgrades between Paluma Road and Valley Drive. Stage 2 will upgrade 1.4 kilometres of Shute Harbour Road to including road widening, a raised road level and other associated flood immunity treatments at Hamilton Plains.
Murradoc Road Upgrade
The project is expected to upgrade Murradoc Road in St Leonards.
Commuter Car Park Upgrades - Ferny Grove and Mango Hill
These projects are expected to increase the capacity of park and ride facilities at Mango Hill Station and Ferny Grove Station.
Thomas Road and Nicholson Road
The project will upgrade the current Thomas Road and Nicholson Road intersection to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion and minimise the risk of accidents occurring. The intersection between Thomas Road and Nicholson Road in Oakford experiences increased congestion and a high number of accidents. The intersection is recognised as one of the most dangerous intersections in Perth, with population growth further increasing the risk of serious traffic incidents. The project will upgrade the intersection to improve traffic flow for the growing community, reduce congestion and minimise the risk of accidents occurring.
Abernethy Road, Kewdale
Abernethy Road, between Avonside Crescent and Adelaide Street in High Wycombe, is experiencing growth in congestion, particularly during peak periods. The northern section of the road serves as an important freight route from the Great Eastern Highway Bypass to the industrial areas adjacent to the Perth Airport Estate. The road is currently constrained by various single lane sections creating congestion issues resulting in travel time delays for passenger and freight vehicles. This project will deliver the design, development and early works for a future upgrade of three kilometres of Abernethy Road to a dual carriageway from Avonside Crescent to Adelaide Street.
Morris Road, Elimbah - 052715-14QLD-RTR
Existing road pavement is in poor condition, cracked and rutted and requires urgent rehabilitation to improve road safety.Rehabilitation of the full width pavement, including minor kerb replacement as well as drainage amendments. The site is approximately 550 metres long X 5.8 metres average width.Total cost of proposed project is $483,000
Wheatbelt Secondary Freight Network
The Wheatbelt Secondary Freight Network comprises some 4,400 kilometres of local government managed roads that connect with state and national highways to provide access for heavy vehicles into the region. These roads are essential for supporting key freight supply chains including grain and mining related freight. They also support tourism in the region. These roads form part of a whole of network approach in improving freight productivity in the region and enabling vital agricultural commodities to access domestic markets and international markets via key WA ports. Upgrades will be prioritised based on linkages to state and national roads and highways and the rail network. Consideration will also be given to links to six ports and two livestock centres, as well as regional and metro grain receival sites, accessed by the producers of the Wheatbelt region. The project will undertake upgrade works within the Wheatbelt Secondary Freight Network. The works include the construction of overtaking lanes, road and bridge upgrades, shoulder sealing and road train assembly parking bays.
