Bruce Highway - Yeppen Floodplain Upgrade
The Yeppen Floodplain upgrade involved the duplication of the Bruce Highway on an elevated carriageway, 3.5 metres higher than the previous highway. The new elevated crossing commences at the Burnett Highway intersection through to the roundabout at the intersection of the Bruce and Capricorn highways.
General Holmes Drive - Level Crossing Grade Separation
The General Holmes Drive level crossing prevented the Port Botany rail freight line from operating to its potential capacity. Road network congestion was also occurring in the vicinity of the level crossing, Sydney Airport’s Domestic Terminals T2 and T3 and on General Holmes Drive / Joyce Drive, a designated primary road freight route to Port Botany. This project is one component of the WestConnex Enabling Works, a three part program of works in the immediate vicinity of Sydney Airport designed to improve traffic flow and access to Sydney Airport and Port Botany. This project consisted of the removal of the General Holmes Drive rail level crossing and the construction of twin rail bridges and a road underpass linking General Holmes Drive, Botany Road and Wentworth Avenue. The project scope included upgrades to the surrounding roads and intersections and improvements to pedestrian and cycle networks.
Bringelly Road
The project included upgrading 10km of Bringelly Road from two lanes to a six lane divided road between the eastern side of the Upper Canal bridge and Eastwood Road, through the future Leppington Town Centre. The remainder has been upgraded from a two-lane to a four-lane divided road with a wide central median to allow for widening to six-lanes, when required in the future. The upgrade was undertaken in two stages to minimise disruptions to traffic. The first stage upgraded the 5.7km section east of King Street to Camden Valley Way and the second stage upgraded the 4.3km section from King Street to The Northern Road.
M12 Motorway
The project will involve the construction of a new east-west motorway between the M7 Motorway near Cecil Hills and The Northern Road at Luddenham. The M12 Motorway will serve as the major access route to the Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport and connect to Sydney’s motorway network. The proposed scope of works includes: An east-west 16km motorway between the M7 Motorway, Cecil Hills and The Northern Road, Luddenham A motorway built for four lanes (with provision for up to six lanes) with a central median to separate opposing traffic flows A direct connection to Western Sydney Airport A new at grade connection to The Northern Road with traffic lights Provision for a motorway-to-motorway interchange at the M7 Motorway Provision for a future grade-separated interchange Connections to Elizabeth Drive near the M12/M7 interchange, and near the Western Sydney Airport entrance
The Northern Road Upgrade
The project upgraded around 35 kilometres of The Northern Road between The Old Northern Road at Narellan and Jamison Road at South Penrith. The upgrade delivered a four-lane divided road, and up to an eight-lane divided road with dedicated bus lanes. The Northern Road Upgrade was delivered in six sections including: The Old Northern Road, Narellan and Peter Brock Drive, Oran Park (3.3km) - completed Peter Brock Drive, Oran Park and Mersey Road, Bringelly (11.3km) - completed Mersey Road, Bringelly and Eaton Road, Luddenham (5.5km) - completed Eaton Road, Luddenham and Littlefields Road, Luddenham (4.5km) - completed Littlefields Road, Luddenham and Glenmore Parkway, Glenmore Park (6km) - completed Glenmore Parkway, Glenmore Park and Jamison Road, South Penrith (4km) - completed The upgrade to The Northern Road also included interchanges with the new M12 Motorway, the M4 Motorway and Bringelly Road.
Narellan Road
The project will upgrade approximately 6.8 kilometres of Narellan Road between Camden Valley Way at Narellan and Blaxland Road in Campbelltown to a six-lane divided road. Stage One—between the M31 Hume Motorway and the access road to the Western Sydney University Stage Two— between M31 Hume Motorway and Camden Valley Way and from the access road to the Western Sydney University at Campbelltown to the Blaxland Road/Gilchrist Drive intersection
Jane Street and Mulgoa Road Upgrade
The project will address the traffic congestion issue due to the large volume of vehicles turning right onto the Great Western Highway from Castlereagh Road, by amplifying the existing road network.
Port Botany Rail Line Upgrade – Stage 3
The Australian Government has approved up to $75 million for the Australian Rail Track Corporation to upgrade the remainder of track on the Port Botany Rail Line, including replacement of remaining timber sleepers, ballast and installation of heavier weight rail. The Stage 3 upgrade project also includes: scoping phase investigations into capacity enhancements to the Southern Sydney Freight Line/Metropolitan Freight Network, which will support the Moorebank intermodal terminal precinct, and other cross-metropolitan freight shuttle services; and the Cabramatta Loop development phase which includes construction design and geotechnical investigations.
National Smart Managed Motorways – Bruce Highway – Gateway Motorway to Caboolture
This project will see the installation of Managed Motorways Intelligent Transport Systems on a 16 kilometre stretch of the Bruce Highway between its junction with the Gateway Motorway and the D'Aguilar Highway at Caboolture. The Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) to be installed include: ramp signals; variable message signs; vehicle detectors; dynamic ramp metering; six additional CCTV sites to build on the existing video monitoring network; and an upgrade to the existing ITS communication system.  In addition to these improvements, the project will also provide minor upgrades to the guardrails, maintenance bays and other safety elements as required.
