Regionally Significant Road formed from natural black soil. Sections of the road have been gravel sheeted over a period of 25 years this has since been blown off and washed away. The existing pavement is prone to deep lateral rutting and potholing as well as significant pavement failure over a distance of 300 metres.Reconstruct area of failed pavement, reshape road and gravel sheet – Win and cart gravel – Spread gravel at 6m wide X 130mm thick, compact to 100mm. Re-establish table and mitre drains.
Road is a State Highway (Oxley Highway HW11), the traveling surface was recently resealed by the Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) of New South Wales. The shoulders however are Councils responsibility and were in poor condition with deep cracking starting to show and severe potholing.Repair potholes, bitumen seal using 10mm aggregate for 1180m (both sides) by approximately 4.5m wide.
Road is used by heavy vehicles to by-pass town centre, it is also a much shorter route connecting the Oxley Highway and the Castlereagh Highway. The road has sections of bitumen seal that are in excess of 20 years old. The pavement has started to deteriorate due to the heavy vehicle traffic, there also needs to be some minor alignment to a corner approaching a railway crossing. It is intended to re-habilitate 2.4km in two stages.Stage 1 will be the pavement and corner re-alignment survey and design with some initial earth works.
The existing road has no formal drainage, edges of seal are breaking away and potholes developing in shoulders which are requiring a high level of maintenance.Works include formalisation of roadway, including the installation of kerb and channel, stormwater drainage including pits and pipes, sealed and clear delineation of traffic lanes for safer vehicle movements, and to aline with current standards.Total cost of proposed project is $335,245
The existing seal is not adequate to service current traffic volumes and requires upgrade to asphalt. This project provides for a new asphalt overlay, which will be tied into the existing kerb and channel levels.
