The lanes listed below are currently either unsealed or in need of resealing or reconstructingThe project involves either constructing the pavement prior to sealing to reduce dust to residents in the Gulgong township, or reconstructing an existing sealed pavement that has failed, or simply resealing the existing sealed road to maintain the condition.
The existing single lane, timber deck bridge and iron girders are in poor condition and requires attention. The existing timber and piped wire fence has a very low capacity as a bridge barrier. Recently the bridge was placed with a 20 Tonne load limit. The project proposes to upgrade the single lane bridge which involves replacing the existing timber deck with a 5.0m wide concrete deck and bridge railing. It also requires the reconstruction and widening of the road approaches to the bridge and upgrading of approximately 425 metres of road pavement and shoulders south of the bridge.Upgrade of bridge and road approaches
Booborowie Rd is a high maintenance open surfaced road requiring major reconstruction as it is too narrow in sections and contains dangerous curves. It is the main north/south commodity route for the surrounding area due to the construction of bulk hay storage facilities and has experienced greater heavy vehicle usage during harvest periods.Additional fill of 5,000m3 required on Booborowie Rd between Braefoot and Gum Creek Rd to achieve a satisfactory vertical alignment to a sub grade level to accommodate the new drainage works. 1.5km of guard rail will be installed on Booborowie Rd between White Rd and Dip Rd in order to increase road safety by providing protection from several deep culverts and creeks from several large/steep batters. Additional signage will be installed to advise motorists of potential hazards on these highlighted sections of Booborowie Rd.
Existing pavement is extremely old (beyond serviceable life) with significant deformation, rutting and cracking. Poor and inadequate drainage, including damaged kerb & channel and pits, has contributed to the pavement failure.Reconstruction of the whole length of road, including road pavement, underground drainage and kerb and channel.
Existing timber bridge is no longer structurally sound and has a load limit of 6 tonnes which is inadequate given this is the only access for residents and emergency vehicles.Replace timber members which are structurally unsound as detailed in the level 3 structural report. Replace deck planks with laminated sheets.
