This project involves the construction of a new interchange between the M1 Princes Motorway and Mount Ousley Road. The interchange will replace the existing intersection, which is a significant pinch point of the Motorway network, and currently experiences long queues and delays during peak periods. As the primary access point to Wollongong and Port Kembla, issues at this intersection also create significant flow-on effects across the wider transport network. This project will improve travel times, as well as access to the Wollongong central business district and the University of Wollongong. It will ensure safer access to and from the Motorway to Mount Ousley Road, and improve safety by separating cars and heavy vehicles travelling down Mount Ousley.
The project involves the construction of a new northbound bridge, repurposing of the existing northbound bridge to take southbound traffic, and rehabilitating and repurposing the historic truss bridge for active travel use.
The project will deliver a corridor assessment and management strategy for the full length of the Hume Highway from Marulan to the Victoria Border.
The project will undertake development activities and the preparation of a Final Business Case to improve the safety and resilience of the M1 Princes Motorway at Mount Ousley.
